Gosh, who read H.P. Lovecraft, and played Dungeon and Dragons when he was a kid? Cthulhu was (and is) a fictional monstrous, god-like entity created by American horror writer H.P. Lovecraft in his 1928 short story, "The Call of Cthulhu." He didn't have horns -- he was more octopoidal -- but I'm sure he at least had horned minions. One of the most frightening stories I ever read was Lovecraft's 1928 short story, "The Colour out of Space." Wikipedia's entry states it was Lovecraft's favourite among his stories, also that it was twice adapted for the screen.
