This is plucky little chair is still in great shape, with just a few scuffs. It should be providing months of reclining amusement for some small child still too young to be totally creeped out by it. Instead, it sits abandoned in a back alley behind a Toys-R-Us (funny that). Depressing, but it remains bright and cheerful -- not that it has a choice.
I blame Disney, not for throwing out the chair, just for anthropomorphizing -- giving human qualities to -- everything from deer to broomsticks. This Western-style animism has spread so far a person can now have an intelligent conversation on their iPhone, thanks to Siri, without calling anyone. The chair, however, maintained a stoic silence. Today is July 4th -- a most important national holiday in the United States of America, when Americans collectively give thanks that David Cameron is not their Prime Minister. Wishing our cross-border buddies all the best!
