Finishing another bike crossing in Vancouver

Posted by Unknown
I was on my way Eastward along the alley on the South side of Broadway Avenue, travelling to the bottle depot this morning. I reached the intersection with Columbia Street just in time to watch a crew of the City of Vancouver's burly worker bees complete a bike crossing. All that was left was to spray-paint on the bicycle stencil.

I waited while they got up steam, or whatever, to power the spray gun. Just as the paint was about to fly, they paused to reconsider the positioning of the stencil.

I've never seen one of these street stencils being applied, and i was interested to see that the stencil pattern was thick plastic -- probably Mylar. The cuts looked a bit rough close up, but that may have been all the paint on the pattern.

The painter had the look of someone who does this fifty times a day. The sand was interesting.

They didn't wait but a moment to lift off the pattern, and drop some orange cones around the freshly painted stencil, and they were done! Another feather in Vancouver, B.C.'s bicycle-friendly cap. Click the images to enlarge them, except for the animated GIF.
