Doug Mckenzie action figure

I found this a while ago. Some hoser in Fairview was moving, and just left it beside a dumpster, with a pile of other stuff they didn't want to take with them. It was just starting to rain, so I was lucky to see it when I did, which is funny, because I didn't -- and don't -- have any real use for it -- I just couldn't leave it to get soaked in the rain. That would've been, I dunno, unpatriotic. After all we're talking about Bob and Doug McKenzie, the iconic, beer-drinking Canadian brothers from SCTV.

Second City Television (SCTV) was a long-running Canadian sketch comedy TV show (1976-1984), born out of Toronto's The Second City troupe, that ran between 1976 and 1984 on CBC. It featured a large, ensemble cast, which portrayed a wide range of characters: The management and employees of the fictitious, SCTV television station, and the characters in the programs broadcast by the station.

SCTV was innovative, revolutionary, and very, very, funny. It became a sensation in Canada, and quite successful in the U.S. SCTV made stars of John Candy, Martin Short, Rick Moranis, Andrea Martin, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Harold Ramis, and Dave Thomas -- virtually the entire ensemble went on to successful film careers.

The McKenzie brothers were Bob (Rick Moranis) and Doug (Dave Thomas). They appeared weekly between 1980 and 1982 on SCTV in a recurring sketch called Great White North; basically sitting in their rec room, drinking beer, and arguing. They were a gentle satire of Canadian stereotypes, and Canadians instantly loved them, and embraced the stereotypes -- like ending a sentence with "eh," or telling each other to, "take off, you hoser."  There were various spinoffs, including a movie called Strange Brew (1983).

The Bob and Doug McKenzie action figures were produced in 2000 by McFarlane Toys. They each come equipped  with a voice chip with signature sound phrases and half a diorama that assembles into a complete Great White North backdrop. Plus, as we can see, Bob has beer -- beauty!
